Feeling the Pressure to Make Your Event Blog Worthy?!

August 1st, 2011 | What's Hot | No Comments »

Here at Funkeydoos, we like to keep an eye on trends in the events industry. Over the past few years, it’s been hard to miss the rise of the events blog. Whether event specific such as wedding blogs (check out rocknrollbride.com) or general (check out hostessblog.com) – these blogs are big business.

More than ever, event planners and brides to be have millions of inspirational images at their finger tips. Spend ten minutes browsing these blogs, and we can assure you that you’ll be itching to organise a wedding/children’s party/baby shower – even if you had no wish to do so before you logged on!

We love events – so it’s no surprise that we enjoy spending time looking at these blogs. However, we do worry that these blogs and the idyllic events that they feature may be putting a lot of extra pressure on event planners; brides in particular.

If you’re feeling under pressure to make your event blog-worthy, we’ve put together some tips.

  • First of all, remember that what you’re seeing on the blogs is not the whole event. You’re seeing photographs taken by a talented professional! Almost all events have tantrums, disasters and less-than-picturesque moments – just because you don’t see them documented doesn’t mean that they don’t happen.
  • Be realistic about what your budget is. Desperate to replicate a fairytale event in a stately home you saw online but don’t have the pockets deep enough? Set down a list of the aspects of the event you loved – and look into replicating them in a way that fits your budget.
  • Don’t try and do it all yourself. Many of the events you see on blogs have been created by professional event planners. Don’t worry if you don’t have the money to hire one yourself – many hotel event packages now include a dedicated planner who will ease you through the process. For example the Apex Waterloo Hotel in Edinburgh provide a team of staff to do just this.
  • Speaking of packages, these can be a great way to create a polished event without breaking the bank. Particularly for weddings, many venues are now offering brides wonderful options – and getting eveything from the same place will certainly cut down your stress levels. You can see our full selection of package wedding deals here.
  • Remember who and what the event is about. You’re gathering a group of people together to celebrate – and the event should be about them and making sure everyone has a great time. If you have some photos to share online after the event – brilliant – but don’t make it the whole focus.
  • Finally, if you are keen to share your event online – make sure you hire a talented photographer. Quality photographs can make all the difference to how your event appears.
